Leadership Transition

June 17, 2019 - The Allston Village Main Streets Board of Directors announces Emma Walters’ departure as Executive Director of Allston Village Main Streets, effective July 17, 2019. Emma played a pivotal role in the growth, development, and sustainability of AVMS during a transformative time in Allston Village. We will miss her and her leadership but wish her luck as she moves on to pursue a master’s degree in urban planning.

Emma has held numerous roles at Allston Village Main Streets over the past 5 years; first as Farmer’s Market Manager in 2014, Farmer’s Market Committee member 2014 - 2015, Interim Executive Director in early 2016, and Executive Director of the organization from 2016 - 2019.

We want to thank Emma for her 5 years of dedication and service to AVMS and the Allston community. Her time as Executive Director included many significant accomplishments including:

  • Creating new community partnerships to develop annual programming including: Taste of Allston, Allston Open Studios, the AllBright Art Crawl, public art installations, neighborhood clean-ups, and more

  • Working with advocacy groups, local officials, and City and State agencies to improve transportation, parking, curbside access, and pedestrian accessibility in Allston Village

  • Successfully acquiring over $150,000 in grant funds for programming, public art, and infrastructure improvement projects including tree pit installations, major sidewalk repairs, and permanent decorative lighting currently undergoing installation throughout the business district and more

  • Cultivating a community of supporters who contributed over $85,000 to continue to make Allston Village a great place to live, work, play, and own a small business

  • Working tirelessly with business owners, residents, and advocates to celebrate and maintain Allston Village’s arts and culture during a period of transformative change

  • Shepherding the organization through its first Strategic Plan

  • Initiating the organization’s first community-wide Business Survey

Over the next few months, we will be searching for and interviewing qualified individuals to fill the role of Allston Village Main Streets Executive Director. We are dedicated to finding the best person to lead the organization and help maintain Allston Village as a great place to live, work, dine, shop, play, and own a small business.

Thank you, Emma, for your dedication to Allston Village Main Streets over the past 5 years. We are grateful for your contributions and accomplishments and wish you the very best in your new endeavors!
